The trash will be sorted into four categories: recyclable, bulky waste, hazardous waste, and other household waste.

The five districts of Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung, Dong Da, Nam Tu Liem will simultaneously pilot the program until the first quarter of 2025.

Afterwards, districts will study the results of the pilot program and make adjustments before launching the second phase through the rest of 2025.

The pilot program will provide data for future projects on solid waste sorting, collecting, and treatment at the source, to be submitted to the Hanoi People’s Committee for approval in 2025, forming the basis for a citywide trash sorting program by 2026.

Hanoi generates about 7,000 tons of household waste every day, only behind Ho Chi Minh City, nationally.
