(VOVWORLD) - The Voice of Vietnam is accelerating digital transformation, creating multi-platform journalistic products to meet the modern audience’s needs. VOV programs are now available on radio frequencies, on multiple websites, social networks,  and other platforms created by VOV. By quickly grasping trends and applying digital technology to journalism, the Voice of Vietnam has asserted its position in modern journalism. 
 
At 11h30, on September 7, 1945, the Voice of Vietnam broadcast its first program. Starting with just 2 channels, after 78 years the Voice of Vietnam now has 8 radio channels, 16 TV channels, 2 online newspapers (vov.vn and vtc.vn), 1 print newspaper, 1 magazine, and multiple applications for distributing multimedia content. The Voice of Vietnam is the only national agency that comprises of all four journalism genres: radio, TV, online, and print.

VOV’s initial success in digital technology application

At 12 noon, the Lunch Show segment of the English section of the Voice of Vietnam goes on the air, inviting listeners to interact with studio guests. Since June 2017 some VOV 24/7’s programs have been livestreamed on the Facebook fanpage VOV5 English Service drawing an enthusiastic audience both at home and overseas. The dual broadcast of live programs on radio and social network platforms has been expanded in recent years. Updating the delivery from analog broadcast to digital has helped the station expand its audience.

Catching up with the trend of modern journalisms all VOV’s radio programs have been posted on the internet and shared on social networks since 2005.

In 2012, all channels at VOV began the digital transformation process, starting with creating their own websites.

VOV’s radio programs are still available on the radio but are now also on the internet on VOV’s OTT platforms VTC Now, VOV Media, VOV Live, and on the online newspaper vov.vn.

VOV has also upgraded its studio to multi-media production. Le Quoc Minh, Editor in Chief of Nhan Dan (People’s) daily newspaper and Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education, and President of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association said: "The Voice of Vietnam has made great strides in the digital transformation process. The station’s radio programs are now available both on the radio and on the internet, reaching people in every corner of Vietnam and around the world. This creates favorable conditions for listeners during the digital transformation of journalism."

VOV catches up with digital trends

The VOV Management Board sees transforming digitally as not just transforming its technology and methods, but also transforming its mindset from management to the production and distribution of journalistic products.

Each reporter, editor and technician at VOV thinks about the digital trend and IT application in every production step.

The Culture and Society Channel VOV2 is one of the departments that has effectively applied digital technology to its production, transforming its radio content to digital form.

VOV2 has diversified its digital content to include video clips, e-magazine and infographic and has integrated images, audio, and video in pieces posted on its website.

Vu Tuyet Mai, the Head of VOV2, said: "To produce journalistic works on a digital platform, reporters and technicians need to work as a team. This has required VOV2’s reporters and editors to change their mindset and working methods. We need to be sensitive and up-to-date to cover the issues on our website and fanpage."

As the leading media agency in Vietnam, the Voice of Vietnam is changing rapidly, reorganizing its production processes, and improving its management to meet the demands of a modern, multi-platform, multi-media journalism agency.

In 2023 the Voice of Vietnam has 12 orientations and tasks that closely follow the direction of the Government and Prime Minister to fulfill its mission of assigned tasks, providing accurate, up-to-date, comprehensive, and in-depth information to its audience inside and outside Vietnam.
