In 2018, the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat directed the Vietnam Red Cross Society to pilot a Humanitarian Month in several localities. As the initiative received an enthusiastic response from the public, the event has been officially observed nationwide every May since 2021.

Reflection of the Party and States attention to humanitarian work

Vice President and Secretary General of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Nguyen Hai Anh says Humanitarian Month is the peak month of public humanitarian activities. During the month of May, communications are stepped up to improve public awareness of humanitarian work and mobilize the public to engage in humanitarian activities.

This year’s Humanitarian Month has the theme “Journey of kindness – spreading love”.

Mr. Hai Anh said: "This theme was carefully considered during multiple meetings. It is a continuation of a fine tradition of mutual support and of all the positive results of Red Cross movements at home and overseas which have received great attention from the Party, State, ministries, and local administrations. We want to take the movement to new heights."

Rising to new heights

This year the Vietnam Red Cross Society has directed associations nationwide to develop plans and coordinate with local authorities to carry out a series of activities.

"In 2024, we launched the “Million Steps of Kindness” campaign for the first time. The campaign has engaged associations at all levels nationwide. Participants register on the vRace app to raise money by walking or jogging. Our target is to mobilize 70,000 people to walk 700,000 kilometers, but we would be very happy to exceed that target and make this one of the most successful programs ever with the greatest participation,' said Mr. Hai Anh.

During the 2024 National Humanitarian Month, medical exams and treatment, livelihood support, gift donations, and visits to the poor have been organized in Son La, Thai Nguyen, and Dien Bien province.

The Vietnam Red Cross Society greatly appreciates the contributions, love, and support the overseas Vietnamese community has provided, and hopes they will continue to aid national development and support humanitarian causes.
