HCM City’s People’s Hospital 115 receives 30 to 40 stroke cases a day, many of them transferred from other provinces. Doctor Tran Van Song, Deputy Director of the Hospital, said their doctors are competent to treat stroke victims using advanced technology to remove blood clots.

'Technology transfer is very important to developing state-of-the-art hospitals. We need to mobilize all resources to develop and transfer technology,' says Song.

Doctor Hoang Thi Diem Tuyet, Director of Hung Vuong Hospital, said her hospital focuses on pediatrics to minimize complications and increase patients’ satisfaction with the hospital’s services. The hospital is currently focused on medical genetics to improve pre-birth diagnosis.

Tuyet told us, 'The hospital has promoted health care tourism as a way to compete with other hospitals in the region in diagnosis and screening of pediatrics-related diseases. We are the first pediatrics hospital with a breast medical section to improve breast cancer diagnosis.'

Associate Professor Doctor Tang Chi Thuong, Deputy Director of the HCMC Department of Health, said a comprehensive health care center will comprise polyclinics, specialized hospitals, high-tech health care centers, Emergency Center 115, and satellite hospitals with smart management system. HCM City also aims to promote health care tourism to attract more visitors and minimize the number of residents going overseas for medical treatment.

Thuong said, 'A comprehensive health care center will not only treat diseases but also diagnose and make early interventions. The health sector intends to develop a disease screening center, which provides early diagnosis and early intervention with high technology for cancer and heart diseases.'

To realize the goal of making HCM City a Healthcare Center for Southeast Asia, the municipal People’s Committee is implementing projects on international standard human resource training, community health development, smart health care, and pharmaceutical industry development.
