World media hails ASEAN Summit in Hanoi

Singapore’s Straits Times quoted the opening speech by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc as the chairman of ASEAN 2020. Prime Minister Phuc said  the coronavirus pandemic had swept away years of economic gains in the region and the world and threatened lives of millions of people. In this context, solidarity to further promote the ASEAN role is the key to regaining the growth.

China’s Xinhua News Agency reported that ASEAN has achieved positive results in controlling COVID-19 and seen strong recovery in the context the world is experiencing crisis due to the pandemic impacts. The news agency also quoted Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s speech affirming that COVID-19 is an opportunity to show ASEAN’s solidarity to move forward.

The ChanelNewsAsia ran articles praising Vietnam’s efforts to organize the 36th ASEAN Summit while COVID-19 pandemic is still complicated. The news agency reported that Vietnam is a model for containing the pandemic and is one of the countries with initiatives in preventing and controlling the coronavirus in the region. The organization of the 36th ASEAN Summit shows the Vietnam and other ASEAN countries proactively deal with any situation.

Major newspapers of Thailand published a number of articles on the 36th ASEAN Summit and other activities hosted by Vietnam as ASEAN Chair 2020. English-language daily newspaper Bangkok Post of Thailand ran an article saying that this year marks the half-way point of the grouping's 10-year journey toward the realization of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, which envisaged deeper integration after the agreement to establish the ASEAN Community back in 2015. It is the ideal time for the bloc to assess their work in achieving those aspirations, it underlined.

Indonesia’s Insider Stories reported Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s opening speech at the 36th ASEAN Summit which stresses the need to enhance cooperation between regional countries to contain the COVID-19 and resume economic activities.
