Sustainable growth prioritized for Vietnam’s development

(VOVWORLD) - The National Conference on Sustainable Development 2018 opened in Hanoi on Thursday, focusing on measures that aim to promote public-private partnership, and improve productivity and competitiveness towards sustainable growth in the digital era.

Themed “Enhancing Competitiveness, Realising Sustainable Development Goals Amidst Industrial Revolution 4.0,” the event drew more than 600 delegates representing Government agencies, think tanks, international organisations, business associations and enterprises. Opening the event, Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Vu Tien Loc said Vietnam and another 192 UN member states committed to 17 sustainable development goals in 2015. He said the Vietnamese government considered sustainable growth the exclusive pathway for development: "The Vietnamese government and the World Bank released the Vietnam Report 2035 with hopes to turn Vietnam into a mid-income country with an average income of over 10,000 USD by 2035. The report identified 6 major economic transformations, including economic modernization, private sector development, efficient urbanization, national innovation and competitiveness. The government has issued a resolution on national competitiveness enhancement to place Vietnam in the top 4 ASEAN countries in terms of competitiveness and institutional quality.”

Within the framework of the conference, the VCCI and the Ministry of Planning and Investment introduced the high-level forum on partnering for green growth and the global goals 2030 (national P4G forum).
The forum aims to bolster the public-private partnership to contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 through the realisation of green growth.
