(VOVworld) - The Mekong Delta Green Tourism Week 2015 opened in Can Tho city on Monday. 50 cities and provinces, some of them from Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar will set up 1,000 display booths.
The event, which will end on July 3rd is an opportunity for the Mekong Delta region to promote its tourism potential. Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh said the Mekong Delta is seeing an increase in tourism and boosting employment and regional and national economic growth. Mr Ninh said: “Provinces need to link their tourist destinations into a system that is attractive to both domestic and foreign tourists. We should turn the Mekong Delta region into a memorable tourist destination characterized by local diversity.”
A conference on investment promotion for green tourism in the Mekong River Delta opened in Can Tho city on Tuesday as part of the Mekong Delta Green Tourism Week 2015. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh asked ministries and agencies to promote and diversify local tourist products, upgrade local infrastructure, and increase connectivity between localities in order to improve tourism competitiveness. Representatives of central agencies, leaders of southwestern provinces, and businesses pointed out major directions for green tourism development and investment policies for green tourism in Vietnam.
