(VOVworld) – Many activities are taking place to celebrate the Khmer ethnic minority people’s traditional New Year festival, Chol Chnam Thmay from. On this occasion, local authorities visited and presented gifts to social policy beneficiaries and congratulate Buddhist clergies and followers.

The An Giang provincial leaders visited and presented gifts to 23 Khmer pagodas in communes of Thoai Son, Chau Thanh, Chau Phu, Tri Ton, and Tinh Bien. They also prepared gifts for the local families of beneficiaries and outstanding Khmer military soldiers. Speaking on these events, An Giang provincial leaders hailed the contributions of Khmer ethnic people and monks to the local socio-economic development. The local people and monks thanked the authorities for their support to help them enjoy better living conditions.

Similarly, the local authorities in the southern province of Soc Trang also organized many activities to mark the occasion such as music and dance performances, folk games, and sports competitions.
