Vietnamese engineer excels in ozone technology

(VOVWORLD) - After participating in a project on water disinfection in Hanoi using ozone technology, graduate student Le Cao Cuong cherished a dream of creating ‘Made in Vietnam’ ozone equipment. 20 years later, engineer Cuong and his colleagues have built thousands of ozone machines. Many of their inventions have been recognized internationally.

When they began making ozone equipment for household use, Cuong and his colleagues tested many design failures, but they refused to give up.

Luong Huu Phuoc of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, one of Cuong’s colleagues, said, “We had lots of ideas for designing ozone equipment for households. We worked out the ideas and concepts and Cuong would turn them into reality.”

Cuong expanded his line of inventions to ozone generators for pharmaceutical manufacturers, milk factories, seafood farms, and waste treatment systems.

“It only takes 1 or 2 months to build an ozone generator, but it can take as much as 10 years to refine it and make it suitable for industrial use in Vietnam. Many ozone generators imported from Germany, South Korea, and Japan don’t operate well in the Vietnamese climate,” said Cuong.

Professor Nguyen Hoang Nghi, a lecturer at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said, “Many companies have gotten involved in producing ozone machines, but some of their machines contain toxic chemicals harmful to health. Cuong puts money and effort into improving the quality of his machines. The ozone machines he produces do not contain toxic chemicals.”

Nguyen Xuan Tiep, deputy director of DABACO Chicken Breeding Company, said, “For a 1,300-square-meter area, I need to use an ozone machine to disinfect the farm and get rid of bacteria. I have used an ozone machine produced by Cuong for 2 years. It kills the fungus and is safe for the environment.”

Pham Duy Quy, head of the management board of the Times City Aquarium, said, “Cuong’s ozone machines are equivalent to those imported from Australia. They are highly disinfectant and get rid of bacteria effectively. We have used Cuong’s machines at our aquarium for 5 years.”

Engineer Le Cao Cuong’s ozone machine won second prize at the Vietnam Science and Technology Awards in 2018 and in 2019 was honored in the “Vietnam Innovation Golden Book.”
