World concerned about report of rocket landing in Poland

(VOVWORLD) -UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday voiced concern about the report of a rocket that hit Poland and killed two people in the town of Przewodów, Lublin province, about 5 miles southwest of the Ukrainian border. He called on the parties not to escalate the conflict in Ukraine, offered his condolences to the families of the victims and hoped a thorough investigation will be carried out.

On Tuesday evening (local time), Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki convened a government emergency meeting to discuss security and defense. In the early hours of Wednesday, the Polish Foreign Ministry said that the missile that caused the explosion was manufactured in Russia, but did not give further comment.

Leaders of the G7 countries and NATO, who are attending the G20 Summit in Indonesia, held an emergency meeting on Wednesday and expressed concern about the incident. A statement released after the meeting said NATO and the G7 agreed to continue to work closely to determine appropriate next steps while investigations are underway.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he had spoken by phone with the Polish president, emphasizing Britain's solidarity with Poland. Sunak pledged continued coordination with NATO allies.
