(VOVworld) – Indonesian authorities reported that 7 bomb attacks at Sarinah shopping center and a gunfight outside a Starbucks coffee shop on Thursday killed 7 people, including 5 terrorists, and wounded 20. One of those killed was Canadian.
The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks. US Secretary of State John Kerry said Washington denounces the Jakarta attacks. He said "There is nothing in any act of terror that offers anything but death and destruction. And so we stand together, all of us, united in our efforts to eliminate those who choose terror". Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders condemned the attacks and sent his condolences to Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi. He also proposed support for Indonesia when needed.
