Delegates discussed measures to seek new approaches for smarter basin-wide water-energy planning and incorporating renewables broadly throughout the Mekong Region. They also highlighted the progress of the Mekong Basin Connect program, a collaboration between the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and the US-based Stimson Center. The program collaborates with stakeholders to develop strategies for integrated water-energy planning and stakeholder-driven processes that reach across borders to ensure a sustainable and secure Mekong basin. It promotes pragmatic approaches that meet each country’s development needs while minimizing environmental, social, and political risks.
