Workshop for diplomats on protecting rights of female migrant workers

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnamese diplomats have gathered in Ha Noi to acquire new skills on how they can better support female migrant workers subject to violence and trafficking, prior to their overseas assignments.

The 2-day workshop jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UN Women is as part of the programme “Safe and Fair: Realizing women migrant workers' rights and opportunities in the ASEAN region.” In his remarks at the workshop on Wednesday, Director General of the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs,  Vu Viet Anh,  reiterated that protecting Vietnamese citizens living abroad is always a top priority of Vietnam’s migration policy and this is also an important mandate of the Ministry while performing the function of state management of external affais. He said that the training workshop will help enhance capacity of diplomats who will work at Vietnamese diplomatic missions and consular posts abroad to better protect the rights of migrants, especially women migrant workers who may have experienced violence when working overseas.
