Women donning “ao dai” shine at work

(VOVWORLD) - Women in Ho Chi Minh City will don “ao dai” (Vietnam’s traditional long dress) at work to celebrate “ao dai” week from March 1 to 8 and International Women’s Day (March 8).

Colorful long dresses brighten up the workspace at Power Generation Corporation 3 (EVN Genco 3) in District 2, in response to “ao dai” week.

Bui Thi Ngoc Lan, head of the Corporation’s Women 's Affairs Department, said, “We encourage all female staff to don ‘ao dai’ from the 1st to the 8th of March for ‘ao dai’ week.”

Women’s Union affiliates in Ho Chi Minh City are hosting a number of activities in response to “ao dai” week.

Ngo Nhu Ngoc, Vice Chairwoman of the Women’s Union in District 4, said, “We have organized a bicycle parade with riders wearing ‘ao dai’ and an ‘ao dai’ fashion contest. We have also called for donations of ‘ao dai’ to be presented to poor Women’s Union members and female workers at industrial parks.”

The Vietnam Women’s Union held its second “ao dai” week this year. Ho Chi Minh City has been one the most enthusiastic responders. The city will host photo contests, exhibits, and a conference to honor the “ao dai”.
