Published on bioRxiv, the study was made by groups of scientists from the Wildlife Conservation Society, the Veterinary Medicine Department, the Vietnam National University of Agriculture, and the One Health Institute under the University of California.

The research warns of risk of an outbreak of the virus during the trading of wild animals and aims to detect new or unprecedented viruses in humans, wildlife, and domestic animals.

To minimize the risks of infectious diseases from wildlife and to protect the Vietnamese livestock industry, the authors recommended a number of specific preventive measures including restricting the slaughtering, commercial farming, transporting, trading, storing, processing and consumption of wildlife.
