The awards honored excellent radio and television pieces in 7 radio categories, 7 television categories, and a Digital Media category.
"Bon Phuc" by Hoang Van An and Tran Huu Hung of VOV1 won in the News Reporting category, “The small alley” by Nguyen Thi Uyen of VOV Online won in the Digital Media category, and “Overcoming adversity” by Nguyen Sy Hao and reporters of VOV4 won a special commendation in the Radio Perspective category.
Head of Radio for the ABU Content Department Olya Booyar applauded “Bon Phuc”. "The Radio News award was a surprise to me. We don’t make the decision, of course. Our juries do, but I was very happy to see that a story about conservation with a local hero was so well produced. It was really touching. It touched the heart of all our jury members. The use of the hero’s voice and his singing was very special. We were quite pleased to see that one entry from the Voice of Vietnam and three entries from China reached the final," she said.
The ABU Awards signify journalistic professionalism as the winners must have a fresh approach, structure, and style as well as profound humanistic and predictive values. Winning an award is an honor not only for the authors, but also for the press agencies they work for.
ABU Secretary-General Javad Mottagi said he is happy to say that the Voice of Vietnam has been actively involved in the ABU over the years and he is really proud of the partnership with VOV.
"VOV is not the only organization facing challenges. Other members of the ABU, because of the pandemic, face similar challenges. But the way forward is to partner with others, work and talk together at gatherings like this to see that challenges are more less the same in Vietnam and other countries in Asia. You can ask: What are the challenges in other countries? How can we change challenges into opportunities? Tell us stories about local achievements and the transformation of challenges into opportunities," he said.
