On Saturday, in Hanoi, the Prime Minister received US National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien, who is visiting Vietnam on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations. Mr. Phuc said Vietnam considers trade cooperation a key driving force in developing bilateral ties and is ready to create favorable conditions for businesses from other countries, including the US, to invest and do business in Vietnam. He called on relevant agencies of the two countries to maintain constructive and mutually respectful dialogue in order to settle pending problems to achieve beneficial results for both sides.

National Security Advisor O'Brien affirmed that the US values its comprehensive partnership with Vietnam on the principle of respecting each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political institutions. He reiterated the US’s strong commitment to continue to broaden and stabilize this relationship in the coming time. Advisor O'Brien repeated the view point raised at last week’s 37th ASEAN Summit that the US supports ASEAN’s centrality in the region and wants to bolster the ASEAN-US strategic partnership in economics, security, education, health, and science.
