Vietnamese-German midfielder called up for national football team

(VOVWORLD) -Head coach Park Hang-seo has called up midfielder Schmidt Adriano to the Vietnamese national football team ahead of Group B clashes against Oman and Japan in the third round of the FIFA World Cup 2022 Asian Qualifiers.

The Binh Dinh club player was born in 1994 to a Vietnamese father and a German mother.

Adriano, who is 1m85 tall, had been with Hai Phong club since 2018 before moving to Binh Dinh in the preparation phase for the new 2022 season.

He is one of three newcomers in the 28-player list Park announced on Thursday.

Earlier the South Korean coach called up two other overseas Vietnamese players – attacker Mac Hong Quan and goalkeeper Dang Van Lam.

Park’s players will reconvene for training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre next Tuesday. They are set to take on Oman at Hanoi's My Dinh National Stadium on March 24 before leaving for the away match against hosts Japan, scheduled for five days later.
