Vietnamese scientist honored at UK’s 2024 TechWomen 100

(VOVWORLD) - Dr. Nguyen Thuy Ba Linh from the University College London (UCL) became the first Vietnamese scientist to receive the prestigious 2024 TechWomen 100 award at a ceremony in London on Thursday (local time).

Dr. Ba Linh was one of the 100 emerging female leaders in technology honored at the ceremony, after surpassing more than 1,000 other nominees.

The award, held at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Center, recognizes Dr. Ba Linh’s contributions and research in biomedical engineering, wound healing, and tissue regeneration. She also led key projects in materials technology for bone and skin regeneration.

The award not only recognizes her individual efforts, but is also a testament to women in science and technology who have overcome challenges and barriers to become role models, said Dr. Ba Linh, adding that she hopes the award will inspire the next generation of female tech talents in Vietnam and around the world to surpass their limits and confidently pursue their passion for science.

Dr. Nguyen Thuy Ba Linh, 44, graduated with a degree in Chemistry from the University of Science in Ho Chi Minh City in 2003. She later received a PhD. in regenerative medicine from Soonchunhyang University in South Korea.

In 2016, she joined the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Oxford University as a postdoctoral researcher, making her marks on biomedical engineering and tissue regeneration. She received Oxford’s Outstanding Postdoctoral Researcher Award in 2017 for her contributions in developing large-scale polycaprolactone particles for harvesting stem cells. Since 2019, Linh has been a lecturer in Biomaterials at UCL’s Eastman Dental Institute.
