China’s Xinhua News Agency reported that more than 69 million voters cast their ballots on Sunday to elect 500 NA deputies and members of People's Councils at three levels.

With the coronavirus pandemic still raging, authorities asked voters to strictly follow COVID-19 prevention and control measures, including wearing masks and maintaining social distancing at polling stations.

Xinhua noted that ballot boxes were brought to hospitals, quarantine facilities, and lockdown areas so all voters could exercise their voting rights.  

Reuters cited Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue as saying that organisers took all necessary steps to ensure the elections took place in a safe environment.

Cuba’s La Prensa Latina news agency reported a very high turnout rate among Vietnam’s 69 million eligible voters.

Japanese news agency Kyodo said that, despite a new wave of COVID-19, Vietnam held a successful general election after allowing candidates to meet online with voters.

Russia’s Spunik news agency praised Vietnam’s ability to hold a nationwide election without spreading the coronavirus.

In its coverage of the elections, halonoviny.cz, a newspaper in the Czech Republic, praised Vietnam’s drastic efforts to control the epidemic and ensure the safety of all voters.
