General Secretary To Lam, his wife and the working delegation pressed the button to launch the Vietnamese Consulate General in Busan. Afterwards, the Party leader addressed the ceremony celebrating 30 years of friendship and cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Busan.
“Busan and Ho Chi Minh City are both leading economics and innovation centers of the Republic of Korea and Vietnam and have many conditions to continue cooperation for development. After 30 years of establishing relations, we have drawn many lessons, many experiences, and adopted new and comprehensive development orientations in economy, culture, society, and people-to-people exchange, which is a model in the cooperative relationship between localities of the two countries,” Mr. Lam said.
Earlier, at a meeting with Mayor of Busan Park Heong-joon, General Secretary Lam congratulated the city on its great achievements, becoming the Republic of Korea’s second largest economic center and the world’s fifth largest port city.
The General Secretary suggested that Busan city continue to bolster cooperation with Vietnamese provinces and cities; support the business community to expand investment in Vietnam, especially in science and technology, satellite urban development, trade centers, logistics centers, infrastructure construction, tourism facilities. He also called on Busan to share experiences, development models and smart seaport operation systems.
Mayor Park said he strongly agrees with General Secretary Lam, adding that Busan will continue to closely coordinate with Ho Chi Minh city and other localities of Vietnam to strengthen substantive cooperation in areas where the two sides have complementary strengths, concretizing the high-level agreements of the two countries.
