Writer and translator Do Ngoc Viet Dung introduced Czech writer Vlastimil Podracky’s works which took Dung 3 years to translate into Vietnamese. Dung said they portray European economies, politics and society and explain Czech culture to Vietnamese readers. The Vietnamese writer said he hopes the exchange will strengthen mutual understanding.

Czech readers were introduced to Vietnamese novels translated into Czech, including Doan Hoai Trung’s “Sweet bitterness”, the first Vietnamese work edited and translated into Czech about Vietnamese students living in Czechoslovakia between 1978 and 1984. In 1993, Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
