During his stay, President Sang met with King Norodom Sihamoni, Parliamentary speaker Samdech Heng Samrin and Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hunsen, received first vice President of the Senate Say Chhum, and visited Supreme Patriarchs Tep Vong and Bu Kry. He laid wreaths at the Independence Monument, the Monument of King Norodom Sihanouk, and the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument. The two sides discussed friendship and comprehensive cooperation and regional and global issues of mutual concern. They pledged to further promote bilateral ties in the spirit of good neighborliness, traditional friendship, and long lasting and comprehensive cooperation in line with the 1999, 2005, 2009, and 2011 joint statements. Vietnam and Cambodia promised to continue respecting each other’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, not interfering in each other’s internal affairs, not allowing any hostile forces to use their territory to threaten the other country’s security, and settling issues through peaceful negotiations. The two sides agreed to increase contacts and visit exchanges, particularly between border provinces. Vietnam and Cambodia agreed to review policies to bring two-way trade to 5 billion USD in 2015 and to quickly complete land border delineation and marker planting. Both countries vowed continued mutual support at multilateral forums and efforts to enhance ASEAN’s role, contributing to peace, security, stability, and development in the region. Vietnam and Cambodia support peaceful dispute settlement in line with international law and regional commitments. The two countries pledged closer cooperation with other member states of the Mekong River Commission to ensure effective and sustainable use and management of the river’s water sources.
