(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnam Veterans Business Association convened its 2nd Congress in Hanoi on Wednesday and received a Labor Order, 3rd Class.

Addressing the Congress, President Tran Dai Quang praised the war veterans for their self-reliance and mutual support in running businesses and production to contribute to national development.

He urged the Association to mobilize resources to help its members to gain more achievements. “It’s necessary to shift to commercial production to sustainably escape poverty. Advanced technology should be applied in production to improve competitiveness and added value, expand domestic consumption markets, and increase exports. Economic development should be combined with environmental protection, national security and defense.”

The Vietnam Veterans Business Association has branches in 36 provinces with more than 7,700 members. They have actively engaged in hunger elimination, poverty reduction, building charity houses, developing new rural areas, upgrading infrastructure and other social activities.
