The signing took place during the ongoing working visit to the US by Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy, aimed at exploring trade promotion opportunities and importing US agro-forestry-fishery products.
Minister Duy and Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig and Deputy Secretary Grant Menke agreed to promote high-quality agricultural exports from Iowa to Vietnam and vice versa. Mr. Duy expressed his confidence in a new and more effective chapter in the relationship between the Vietnamese business community and Iowa.
This working trip aims to provide US businesses with comprehensive information to help them explore market entry opportunities and expand their production, business, and investment activities in Vietnam, particularly in the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors, said Minister Duy.
“More importantly, we want federal and state authorities, the US business community, and policymakers to acknowledge Vietnam’s commitment to fostering our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a view toward the early signing of a reciprocal trade agreement between our two countries,” he noted.
Iowa, known as the “Heart of Agriculture” in the US, stands as the nation's leading corn producer with an annual output of 50 million tonnes. The state also excels in producing many other agricultural commodities like soybeans, wheat, pork, and beef.
