Vietnam, US hold defense policy dialogue

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and the US agreed on Monday to concentrate on overcoming the consequences of war, UN peacekeeping, military medical cooperation, and search and rescue, while continuing to consult each other at regional forums.

During the Vietnam-US defense policy dialogue in Hanoi, the two sides discussed global and regional issues of shared concern and reviewed bilateral defense ties over the past year.

The event was co-chaired by Deputy Defense Minister Hoang Xuan Chien and Ely Ratner, US Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs.

Both sides spoke highly of their cooperation in various fields, in particular; dealing with the aftermath of war such as dioxin remediation at Bien Hoa airport, supporting people with disabilities in areas affected by Agent Orange, bomb and mine clearance, and searching for the remains of soldiers missing in action.
