Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong addressed the first Energy Security Dialogue.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong said Vietnam’s energy demand is forecast to be equivalent to 90 million tons of oil by 2025 and around 134 million tons by 2035. Vietnam needs the support of international organizations and countries like the US to meet this growing demand, Vuong said, adding that  cooperation between Vietnam and the US in this sector lags behind the potentials and strengths of the two countries: “Vietnam and the US should cooperate more in oil exploitation and other projects on energy import, oil refinery, power transmission, and smart electrical grid infrastructure. This dialogue will open a new chapter in bilateral energy cooperation”.

US ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink said the US wants to be an important partner of Vietnam in fostering energy security, and leading US energy companies are currently seeking more business opportunities.
