(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s Prime Minister has approved a National AIDS Strategy whose ultimate goal is to end the AIDS epidemic in the country by 2030.

The strategy outlines HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities designed to reduce new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths, and minimize the impact of the epidemic on Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

The strategy aims to improve communications to raise public awareness of the consequences of the epidemic, diversify HIV testing and counseling services, promote self-testing, strengthen the HIV/AIDS prevention and control system at all levels, and expand personnel and funding for HIV/AIDS prevention and control.

Under the strategy, 80% of people who are at high risk for HIV infection will have access to HIV prevention services by 2030.
