(VOVWORLD) - Localities across Vietnam are tightening measures to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hanoi’s steering committee for COVID-19 prevention and control agreed at a meeting on Monday to continue collecting health declarations under the guidelines of the Health Ministry, monitor or quarantine confirmed and suspected cases of coronavirus infection, and respond rapidly to new developments.

Da Nang is closely monitoring gateways to the city to control the spread of the virus to the community. A COVID-19 response team has been sent to the border of Da Nang and Hoi An to monitor travel between the two cities, said Captain Tran Trung Dinh of the municipal traffic police. He said the team is getting good cooperation from the large number of foreign visitors.

The 4-star Hoi An Beach Resort is being used as a safe retreat for foreign diplomatic visitors. Nguyen Van Ban, CEO of the Hoi An Tourist Service Joint Stock Company, said the company’s staff and volunteers, together with the provincial steering committee for COVID-19 prevention, stand ready to respond to new developments. He said the Hoi An Beach Resort worked with the committee earlier to provide free meals to people quarantined at the Farmers’ Association school.

Ho Chi Minh city has prepared quarantine areas for 3000 people and will soon complete quarantine areas for more than 20,000, said Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City's Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan.

Additional doctors are being trained to treat up to 1,400 Covid-19 patients. Mr. Nhan said the city hopes to limit the number of patients by asking people to wear facemasks. The city will provide 50 million free facemasks when students return to school.
