Vietnam, Thailand aim at trade turnover of 25-30 billion USD

(VOVWORLD) -President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha have vowed to achieve the target of 25 billion to 30 billion USD in bilateral trade turnover.

During talks at the Government House in Bangkok on Wednesday, both leaders discussed enhancing the two countries’ Strategic Partnership. They welcomed their Central Banks for successfully implementing the project of connecting bilateral retail payments using QR codes. Vietnam encourages Thai businesses to invest in green energy, automobiles, processed foods, textiles, electronic materials, chemicals, and industrial park infrastructure.

The two sides agreed on the enhanced Strategic Partnership between Thailand and Vietnam through the "Three Connections" Strategy, including connecting supply chains, connecting grassroots economic sectors, and connecting the two countries' sustainable growth strategies.

The two leaders also agreed to promote cooperation between localities, people-to-people exchanges, and the teaching of Thai language in Vietnam and Vietnamese language in Thailand.

Discussing regional and global issues of mutual concern, they affirmed coordination to promote ASEAN’s unity, self-reliance and centrality; build a connected, peaceful and prosperous Mekong sub-region; maintain ASEAN's shared stance on the East Sea; emphasize the importance of maintaining peace, stability, safety, security, freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea on the basis of respect for international law.

After the talks, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha witnessed the signing of five cooperative documents.

Later, the two leaders announced to media the results of the visit and issued a joint statement with the message "Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-Thailand Strategic Partnership: opening a new chapter of an even stronger Strategic Partnership for peace, stability and shared prosperity.”

After the press conference, President Phuc and his wife, together with the Prime Minister of Thailand and his wife visited the booths displaying handicraft products of the two countries. Next, the Prime Minister of Thailand and his wife hosted a banquet for President Phuc and his wife.

Cooperation documents signed between Vietnam and Thailand include:

-Action Program to implement enhanced Strategic Partnership for 2022-2027

-Agreement on mutual legal assistance in civil matters

-Memorandum of Understanding on establishing cooperative and friendly relations between Da Nang City and Khonken Province

-Memorandum of Understanding between the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Thai Trade Commission

-Agreement to boost trade and investment cooperation between Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam and Export-Import Bank of Thailand.
