The UN High-Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage took place in New York during the UN General Assembly high-level week. Ms. Tien said Vietnam has made an effort to strengthen its primary healthcare system to provide better services to its people and allow them to enjoy state- and health insurance-funded medical programmes.
Universal healthcare is a pathway to achieving health-related Sustainable Development Goals, she said, adding that reforms have enhanced the effectiveness of Vietnam’s healthcare system, particularly improving its primary healthcare clinics.
Ms. Tien said Vietnam has reformed its financial mechanisms, invested in infrastructure in the health sector, and provided extra training to medical workers at primary healthcare service providers.
