Vietnam scrambles to fight COVID-19

(VOVWORLD) - Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday began its largest vaccination campaign ever to contain the coronavirus which is ravaging the city. 836,000 vaccine doses allocated by the Government for Ho Chi Minh city will be administered in a week at 1,000 vaccination stations.

On Friday, Dang Xuan Phong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Lao Cai province, asked for quick contact tracing, strict observance of the Health Ministry’s guidelines on prevention and treatment, and full preparedness of field hospitals and quarantine facilities.

The Steering Committee of COVID-19 Prevention and Control of Hoa Binh province met on Friday online with local leaders to discuss COVID-19 safety measures in the new normal period. Bui Van Khanh, Chairman of the Hoa Binh provincial People’s Committee, stressed the importance of involving the whole political system in fighting the pandemic and securing socio-economic development. Contact tracing, quarantine, testing, and precautions are going on to keep the coronavirus at bay, Khanh said.

Also on Friday, the Red Cross Society of Vinh Phuc province received 108,000 USD to buy COVID-19 vaccines, donated by Honda Vietnam and Toyota Boshoku Hanoi. Vu Chi Giang, Vice Chairman of the Vinh Phuc provincial People’s Committee said donations are crucial to realize Vietnam’s vaccination rollout to achieve herd immunity. Vinh Phuc province will give priority to big businesses operating there, Giang said.
