The document was presented by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, recognizing Vietnam’s decades of coordinated action across the health sector to improve community health and prevent blindness caused by this preventable disease.
Director-General Ghebreyesus commended Vietnam’s achievement, calling it a testament to the government, health workers, and communities’ commitment and a prime example of how targeted interventions, partnerships, and persistent efforts can make a real difference to public health.
Vietnam is now among 21 nations recognized for having eliminated trachoma. This is a significant achievement for Vietnam’s health sector, after more than seven decades of persistent efforts to fight the disease.
