Vietnam promotes cooperation with US, Japan

(VOVWORLD) - Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son had meetings with his US and Japanese counterparts in Bangkok on Thursday during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Week.

Mr. Son and Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa agreed to enhance coordination to implement the agreements reached between the Prime Ministers of the two countries at their meeting last Saturday, including Japan’s provision of new-generation ODA and support for Vietnam in socio-economic development and green transition.

The two countries will step up mutual visits, boost post-pandemic cooperation, and increase cultural, people-to-people, locality-to-locality, and tourism exchanges to mark 50 years of diplomatic ties in 2023.

Minister Son and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken agreed to increase meetings and delegation exchanges at all levels and bolster connections in trade, security, defense, education, and resolution of war consequences.

They also agreed to coordinate at international forums and strengthen partnership with ASEAN and the Mekong sub-region.
