Vietnam President’s visit to Indonesia marks new milestone in bilateral ties

(VOVWORLD) - President Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to Indonesia from Wednesday to Friday will mark a new milestone in the 67 years of relations between Vietnam and Indonesia, according to journal Eurasia Review.

Its recent article “It’s time to elevate partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia into a comprehensive strategic partnership” by scholar Veeramalla Anjaiah said Indonesia and Vietnam are key players in the ASEAN region and have similar ideas about achieving the common goal of  the ASEAN community and maintaining peace and security in the region, especially in the South China Sea (called the East Sea in Vietnam).

Indonesia’s news site Publika and Kompasiana said President Phuc’s historic visit creates a new face for the existing strategic relationship between the two countries.

The two Presidents are scheduled to discuss the entire gamut of bilateral relations, recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, the South China Sea, and other international issues, according to Indonesia’s news site The Star.

The two leaders will also discuss means to boost bilateral trade and expand cooperation, investment opportunities, and promote people-to-people links through tourism.

“The Star" quoted Indonesian scholars and entrepreneurs as saying that the visit will bring the two countries' relations to a new height, open up investment opportunities, and help both countries become leading economies in the region.
