For 81 days and nights in the summer of 1972, thousands of soldiers fought heroically and died defending Quang Tri Citadel.

The same day, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh attended a similar ceremony at Dong Loc National Monument in Ha Tinh province.

The Voice of Vietnam and Navy Brigade 131 jointly organized a program in Hai Phong city on Sunday to honor those who have defended Vietnam’s sea and islands.

Gifts were presented to soldiers and officers in difficult circumstances. 900 USD was donated to a fund called "Love for the Fatherland’s sea and islands".

VOV Deputy President Vu Hai Quang expressed his gratitude to the predecessors for their sacrifices, “Though today’s youth were born after the war, they can appreciate the enormous sacrifice of the predecessors through the stories told by old soldiers. We will never forget their great sacrifices and pledge our best efforts to contribute to national construction and defense.”
