With the improved ranking, Vietnam has for the first time moved out of the low English proficiency group in the rankings compiled by the Swiss language training company.

Vietnam is now in the moderate proficiency group, alongside 28 other countries. Elsewhere Vietnam ranks seventh, up from 12th in Asia, and fourth in Southeast Asia.

The ranking is based on the EF Standard English Test, an online and adaptive English test consisting of reading and listening skills which classify language abilities into one of six levels established by the Common European Framework of Reference.
