Addressing the event, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highlighted General Giap’s contributions to national liberation, reunification, and construction over 8 decades. He said General Giap was the first Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People’s Army and an outstanding military strategist, and a prestigious leader of the Vietnamese Party and State.
"Taking on great responsibilities at the age of 37, General Giap fulfilled every task assigned by the Party, great President Ho Chi Minh and heroic Vietnamese people with extraordinary will and determination. During 30 years acting as the Vietnamese People Army’s General Commander, General Giap was considered the Big Brother of the Vietnam’s People Army. He contributed greatly to many great victories of Vietnam against its enemies, earning the love and admiration of foreign friends, including renowned political figures and leaders around the world," said Prime Minister Chinh.

Reviewing General Giap’s life, revolutionary career, and contributions, Prime Minister Chinh pledged to follow the path chosen by the Vietnamese Party, State, and people, to protect Vietnam’s renewal achievements and contribute to Vietnam’s future development. He also underscored the importance of national defense tasks in the new context.
"Inheriting and promoting the fine traditions of the Vietnamese People’s Army, all staff and soldiers of Vietnam pledge to be loyal to the Fatherland, Party, State, the Vietnamese people, and socialism. The army is determined to fulfill any task assigned, whether it be fighting or production, and to be forever a special political force and a faithful fighting force to help protect the Socialist Republic of Vietnam," Prime Minister Chinh said.

An exhibition on General Vo Nguyen Giap’s life and career was held Wednesday morning.
Earlier, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and offered incense at General Vo Nguyen Giap’s monument in his home province of Quang Binh.
