Looking back on 45 years of diplomatic relations, Quynh said the relationship became very special after it was raised to a strategic partnership in 2015.

Regular exchanges have occurred at all levels, and cooperative mechanisms have been maintained through generations of leaders. The two countries have already seen robust trade and investment and now see a huge potential for further cooperation. Malaysia is currently Vietnam’s eighth-largest trade partner, and Vietnam is the 12th-largest trade partner of Malaysia. Malaysia ranks seventh out of  125 countries and territories invested in Vietnam. The two countries have become interested in bolstering collaboration in security and defence. Fruitful cooperation has been recorded in labor, education and tourism. The two have built strong bonds as active members of major international organizations.
