Quy addressed a UN General Assembly session to mark the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons (September 26). The event was attended by UN General Assembly President Abdula Shahid, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, and representatives of 95 countries and organizations.

According to the Vietnamese Ambassador, measures should be rolled out to realize Article No.6 of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which asks parties to pursue negotiations in good faith towards general and complete disarmament.

Quy pointed to the necessity of solidifying nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament mechanisms to realize the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).

As a member of the NPT, the CTBT, and the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, Vietnam honors its responsibilities and supports all international efforts to completely eradicate nuclear weapons, he said.
