(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam adheres to a consistent policy of anti-proliferation and elimination of weapons of mass destruction, said Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN.

At a general debate of the UN Disarmament and International Security Committee on Monday, Mr. Quy said Vietnam will continue to work with other countries to promote international peace and security and resolve regional problems, including implementing resolutions of the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council.

He said that the implementation of treaties on conventional weapons should be in line with international law, be balanced, non-discriminatory, non-politicized, and should respect the legitimate rights of countries in defense and security.

The Ambassador suggested that countries cooperate and develop standards to address common challenges in accordance with international law.
