(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Thursday approved the renewal of visa exemptions for five European nations (Germany, France, the UK, Italy and Spain) for a period of three years.

Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung said: “The National Assembly of Vietnam allowed the Government to pilot e-visas to increase the number of visitors to Vietnam. In 2015, there were 720,000 visitors from Western Europe. In 2016 that increased to 855,000 visitors. The number reached 1.5 million in 2017. Effective tourism promotion and visa exemption policies have helped Vietnam maintain an international visitor growth of approximately 30 percent. As to lengthening exempted stays from 15 days to 30 days and increasing the number of exempted countries, the Prime Minister said he will first evaluate the results of the current policy.”
