(VOVworld) - Kim Yong-Nam, President of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has begun his official friendly visit to Vietnam until August 7th. After his welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace on Monday, Mr. Kim held talks with Vietnam’s President Truong Tan Sang. Both leaders reiterated their desire to constantly consolidate their traditional bilateral friendship to meet the aspirations of both peoples for mutual benefits. This will contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in region. Both sides agreed to continue maintaining high level visits and contacts between senior officials. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, culture, arts, sports, education and training and people to people exchanges.
They also agreed to cooperate international and regional forums including the ASEAN regional forum, non-aligned movements and promote exchanges on issues of mutual concern. Regarding issues on the Korean peninsula, President Truong Tan Sang confirmed Vietnam’s consistent support for a peaceful and non-nuclear Korean peninsula. Vietnam hopes that all the relevant parties will be flexible and make practical moves to promote dialogue and denuclearization in the peninsula. Sang added that Vietnam supports dialogue, reconciliation, cooperation and peaceful reunification between the two Koreas.
In terms of the East Sea issue, President Kim Yong Nam expressed his support for resolving the conflicts through dialogue, to insure peace and stability in the region. President Sang also sent his condolences to the people of the DPRK who have suffered great losses in recent natural disasters, adding that Vietnam will send 5,000 tons of rice to assist the DPRK’s people.
