With a coastline of more than 3,000 km and hundreds of beaches and pristine islands in 28 coastal provinces and cities, Vietnam can develop into one of the top-class sea and island tourism destinations in the region and the world.

Nguyen Anh Tuan, Director of the Institute for Tourism Development Research, said: “Vietnam has great potential for tourism development which has not been fully tapped. Products are quite monotonous and lack creativity, so tourists don’t spend long holidays. Obviously our products have not met tourists’ demand, they don’t have many choices to spend more money and to stay longer.”

Doan Van Viet, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said: “Vietnam's sea and island tourism development will focus on high-end beach resort tourism in association with environmental protection, cultural and tradition promotion, community development, and nation's sovereignty protection. We look forward to hearing from experts and scientists so that we can come up with solutions to develop sea and island tourism in abreast with Vietnam's strengths and potential.”
