The show was broadcast on the Quan doi Nhan dan (People’s Army) television channel Tuesday night in response to World Ocean Day, June 8, and Vietnam Sea and Island Week.

Mr. Chinh called on countries around the world to be aware of the traditional and non-traditional challenges that seas and oceans are facing.

He said it’s important to respect and abide by international law, participate in bilateral and multilateral mechanisms, and strengthen cooperation in ocean related issues.

“Vietnam is committed to strictly implementing international obligations, reducing emissions, responding to climate change, ensuring maritime security and safety, and settling maritime disputes through peaceful measures in accordance with international law,” said Mr. Chinh.

But he noted, “Vietnam resolutely and persistently protects its legitimate rights and interests, independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and respects the legitimate rights and interests of other countries.Vietnam will continue to fine-tune its laws, policies, and planning on sea and ocean management, strengthen its marine economy, biodiversity conservation, and recovery of marine ecosystems, and better deal with marine pollution.”

Prime Minister Chinh thanked international organisations and development partners around the world and said he hopes to continue receiving their cooperation and support on sea and ocean-related issues.

He affirmed the Party and State of Vietnam’s consistent policy of being ready to cooperate and join hands with the international community in solving global maritime challenges.
