This is the first meeting held by the two organizations with the participation of the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) and domestic and foreign experts to assist Vietnam in developing clinical test plans in the third phase for made-in-Vietnam COVID-19 vaccines.

Vietnam currently has two vaccine candidates, NanoCovax and Covivac, in the second and third phases of clinical trials, and is considering the approval of NanoCovax for emergency use.

Vietnam wishes to learn from the experience of WHO and MFDS experts for vaccine research, clinical trials, and licensing for emergency use.

A WHO representative recommended that Vietnam develop licensing guidelines for circulation and emergency use of home-grown and imported vaccines. He said Vietnam should continue to consult domestic and foreign experts to speed up licensing procedures for emergency use to minimize risk during vaccine studies.
Both sides will continue to hold working sessions to help Vietnam improve its capacity of developing COVID-19 vaccines.
