All the new cases are among Vietnamese passengers who were left stranded in Kuwait due to the COVID-19 pandemic and repatriated to Vietnam on June 16 on flight QH9092.

They were all tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on June 17 with the results coming back positive. The patients are now being quarantined for medical surveillance and treatment at the General Hospital of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province in the south.

On June 17, the Ministry of Health also announced a positive case returning to Vietnam from Kuwait on the same repatriation flight.

All the returnees were quarantined as soon as they landed in Vietnam, posing no risk to the community, the ministry assured.

As of 6pm on June 18, Vietnam has recorded a total of 342 coronavirus cases, of which 325 cases have fully recovered, making up 95%. No deaths have been reported.

Of the total number of infections, 202 cases have been placed in quarantine upon their arrivals.  

Vietnam has continuously brought the novel coronavirus under control as it has gone 63 days without new locally transmitted coronavirus infections.
