Mr. Chinh gave the statement while attending a ceremony in Cambodia marking the 45th anniversary of Cambodian PM Hun Sen’s journey to overthrow the Pol Pot genocidal regime. By 1989, Vietnam had withdrawn all its volunteer soldiers from Cambodia under an agreement between the two countries, accomplishing its international mission, said Mr. Chinh.

PM Hunsen said that without the journey to overthrow the Pol Pot regime starting on June 20, 1977, and the subsequent events, Cambodia would not be what it is today. He once again affirmed the soundness of Vietnam’s act, as Vietnamese volunteer soldiers joined hands with the Cambodian people in their struggle for national liberation, thus helping them get rid of the genocidal regime.

The two PMs praised the good neighborliness, traditional friendship, and durable comprehensive cooperation between their two countries. They visited several works in Techo Koh Thmar X16 historic site in Memot district, and cut a ribbon to inaugurate the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship House there.

“The friendship and comprehensive cooperation between our two countries have been deepened over the past 45 years. I’m glad to see the development of infrastructure connecting Cambodia and Vietnam," said  PM Hunsen.

"PM Chinh and I agree that this site will be built into an international border gate, which demonstrates our growing friendship and contributes to increasing bilateral trade.”
