During a meeting in Phnom Penh on Tuesday, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen stressed the need to maintain regular meetings and exchanges at all levels and strengthen defense-security.

They agreed to tighten links between the two economies, particularly in transport, telecommunications, trade, and investment, and soon finalize a master plan on Vietnam-Cambodia economic connectivity until 2030.

They agreed to seek solutions to pending issues on border delineation and border marker planting for a border of peace, stability, and cooperation.

The leaders pledged to boost cooperation as Cambodia assumes the role of ASEAN Chair in 2022. They underlined the importance of ensuring security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight, consolidating trust, respecting international law and settling disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

They voiced support for the full implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and the finalization of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea.

The same day, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc met King Norodom Sihamoni and senior leaders of Cambodia.

Mr. Phuc and President of the National Assembly of Cambodia Heng Samrin attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Cambodian National Assembly’s Administrative Building, a gift from the Vietnamese Party, State, and people. The project cost 25 million USD.
