Ambassador Quy made the statement at the United Nations Security Council monthly meeting on the situation in Syria on Tuesday. Members of the Council emphasized the importance of promoting a comprehensive political solution on the basis of Security Council Resolution 2254, towards a definitive settlement of the crisis in Syria.
They shared concerns about the deteriorating security situation and called on all parties to exercise restraint, facilitate dialogue and negotiation, protect civilians and maintain humanitarian assistance.
The Vietnamese Ambassador emphasized the need to prioritize humanitarian assistance efforts in the wake of the economic crisis, food insecurity, lack of basic goods and the COVID-19 pandemic. He welcomed the Security Council's agreement to extend the cross-border aid mechanism to Syria and emphasized the importance of maintaining consensus in finding a long-term and comprehensive political solution.
